Info graphics with a twist.

I have not yet tried info graphics and there is a large chance that I won't be able to do it successfully but still I really appreciate this design and the twist which has been given in conveying a message which informs but also promotes a way of life.
Again the colour drew me in and the complicated illustration complements the simple background and type.

They may have gone a little wrong in that I only realised who the advert was for after really stopping and looking over it which may be a good thing as they could easily be using it to re-brand themselves as a more playful and colourful/up to date company.

Hum Creative

I love hum creatives personality and originality which they bring to their clients stationary.  I wish I had found them sooner. So much so I am addding them to my top 30.  I would love to have the initiative to create such simple and beautiful designs.  I realise my own faults in design when looking and such things but at the same time I look forward to one day being able to create something as beautiful which is my own. Fingers crossed anyway. 

Another style I would like to achieve.

Although this isn't my ideal style I really love the colour, bright feeling, hand made effect and type based image which makes this poster work.

I don't feel I have really pushed myself into creating such hand rendered work although Arthur and I did have a go at some type created by objects in the collaborative project for fairtrade but it did not really work as well as we had hoped. This is another area I would like to delve into more as I really appreciate well thought out shape and colour within a set space.

The other type of stationary

This selection surprised me but I think it is the range that comes with the design that drew me in.  

I love that something can be transferred around all sorts of products and look just as professional on a pencil sharpener as it does on a note book.  The consistency shows professionalism and of course links directly to the client  - designers. 

Simple design that works is the best type of design. Of course.

Joules website

Although I am not usually a fan of design for fashion and the consumerist market I really like the joules relaxed artistic design style. I popped into a shop the other day and it was really quirky and really a different experience to other shops. They had really thought about how things were laid out, what you see first etc. The shop interior was bright and colourful and not at all overwhelming and the graphic design, tags, signage, website mirrored this.

The images below are taken from the website but probably don't do what I am saying or the shop justice. I like the idea of turning round the usual feeling of going shopping and spending all your money into a fun experience and making the shopper feel comfortable and happy when in your store. Although I am not sure I will take this on in the third year it interested me to know that I took notice of this.

Just found an amazing blog.

As I have been considering ways to be inspired for my current project I decided to scout the internet for blogs etc which could do just that. Luckily I fell upon this one. ISO50

As I looked through I was intrigued to realise that all the work I was inspired by was on the most part printed work. Similarly I recently purchased a book which contains a number of beautiful prints - not so much focussing on embossing and foiling etc but on printed colour and the effect given by screen print. In many cases these prints included patterns and quite organic illustration. I would love to be able to focus on this into the third year and base a brief on this... or even use this within the current project I am attempting.

This style would work really well on greetings cards as well as wedding stationary so would like to find my own style within this possibly over the summer.

Ice scream social. For 'The wedding artists collective.'

This is one for my 'work I one day want to produce' list. Of course my current project revolves around this subject but I adore the simplicity but attention to detail in these wedding stationary ranges created by ice scream social.
The beautiful illustration is complimented with embossing and a simple 2 colour plus stock consistency.

The trimming around the edge is sophisticated yet orginal and you can tell the designer knows about the clients (couple) he is designing them for.

Small details like the blue hole plug and string have been well thought out and then delivered with quality crafting yet this piece feels personal and not 'mass produced.'Here you can see the range which has been designed for the client, including invitations, envelopes, stamps and tags. and below a little note pad.

Here they have been able to show their ability to adapt to the brief as they design something very different for another couple with a larger range of printed stationary but with just as much originality as the first. Really beautiful.

Image and type for this brief really does seem suitable as the image can bring that sense of personality from the client.

I like the detail in the illustrations surrounding the names/dates which bring them to life. Simple trimmings really add class to the invitations but are not made to obnoxious by added actually images like in these city designs.

FILM - really love this.

I love work which has so much back thought to it and when you can see that through its simplicity.
Although mainly film it is all about the words it makes you think of and the way your mind takes it all in. I could imagine a question like... 'What is the meaning of life?' running along side it. Thought provoking and beautifully creative.

crafty, colourful, typography

1.These type based illustrations are just my style. Quirky, imperfect but beautifully characterful. The illustrator has had to go into detail within the individual letter form to work out where windows would be places and where roof tiles would go. I would love to create my own illustrated type face within my third year - this could easily be translated to be used on greetings cards and other stationary like this.

2. Everytime I go into Pret a manger I am greeted by these beautiful designs. The simplicity is perfect and imagination like this is rare. I love the direct connection with the company and the way your mind is left thinking about it.

This is a perfect example of thinking outside the box and not having to just use type and illustration to demonstrate a point well. Of course decent photography skills are needed alongside this and so shows the importance of collaboration.

Definitely something I would be proud to produce.

3. I have put this in many context journals when showing my inspiration.

This paper crafted chilli recipe is so simple, colourful and well crafted. I love the hands on approach to design. Working out things by playing with paper and other materials has got to be my favourite past-time as well as seeing its progression and eventually the final project. I am one to be patient when creating something with my hands as I have previously attempting to make an office out of paper including a computer, lamp an stapler (and more) . Paper is a great love of mine and I would like to make my own mark when it comes to crafting. I'm not entirely sure how to create something as original as this but you have to start somewhere.

4. Although completely different to all of the above I would still like to keep my mind open when it comes to digital creations and I feel James Joyce is my ideal designer when it boils down to the best, (in my opinion). Simple symbolic imagery links with well thought out type face choices and the perfect colour mixes really make his work stand out. Mainly print based I feel his exhibition looks professionally skill-full and really creative. He blossoms most with his use of play on words and quotations. I could imagine the majority of his work is used as poster design and I would love to own one or two of his prints.
