I have been looking into organic design, things which seem to be based on the elements. I think I have quite simplistic taste and prefer just a couple of colours plus stock. The obvious colours of green/blue/browns should work well and seem to be what I am drawn to but i really don't want to cross any others off. I think it will work to use shades/tones of one colour and see how well that works.

Another idea to look into is how I can use photography in my work. Of course that is one of the best ways of capturing nature no.2 depicts this perfectly. Really crisp image, simple.

7. Shows how simple geometric illustrated shapes actually work well in depicting the outdoors. To me it looks like loads of trees. I think it has a lot to do with the colours and the flow of it.

Colour is going to be very important in this project.

Tactile Typography.

I have posted loads of images I have found of creative/tactile typography. I want to carry on researching into the effect this has and point in being more creative with type. I have found myself, after learning all the new software etc, not leaving the digital world to experiment with everything else around me. I think, if anything, I am more of a hand crafted designer rather than digital and need to begin to balance the two instead of being a bit afraid.

HAPTICS (greek for the science of touch)

I found this word in the book 'TYPE ONE'

It explains that "haptics, in the context of typography describes directly touching and feeling objects and spatial arrangements. In a 3 dimensional world haptics is a basic element of all mental understanding. If tactile and visual perception are linked, the third dimension can be presented optically in two dimesnions... Haptic feeling and touching leads to a visual grasp, to recognising and acknowledging an image that the brain has already stored."

This shows the importance of the way we use type and image and how is can (if done correctly) have a huge effect on what a person thinks and feels. If I design type which forces the human brain to conjure up a positive feeling of being outside then it will have done what I would of wanted... But how?

Of course I am going to begin to experiment with tactile type faces and images. It is all about trial and error.

This has made me think about what I can print onto the windows of an office to make is seem like it is floating/outside. Also like the way that this is hand crafted and something I want to go up and touch.

Due to my project being about encouraging people to be outside it would be good to look into different ways of displaying type. What could I use to print on. How can I use type outside. I really like the cloth round the trees. reminds me of Andy Goldsworthy.
